Introduction
Each field deployed ION Enterprise (IONE) 6.0.1StruxureWare Power Monitoring (SPM) 7.0.1Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.28.0(PME) 8.2 system is unique. Some systems have been modified very little from the factory defaults, while others may have been completely customized. In IONESPM 7.0.1PME 7.2.2(missing or bad snippet), the various configuration items and settings are stored in different locations and in different formats. Most of the configuration items and settings stored in a file or in the database are easy to migrate in bulk to the new system; however, a few must be recreated individually in the new system. The Configuration Manager automatically migrates many of the configuration items, including the database files. However, you will need to manually upgrademigrate several configuration items after the Configuration Manager writes the old system to the new system.
This guide is designed to help you move an old IONEPME configuration to a new PME 8.2 system using the Configuration Manager.

Note: In this document, PME 8.2 is used when discussing the procedural steps. However, these steps also apply to the following PME versions:
- PME 8.2 Data Center Edition
- PME 8.2 Healthcare Edition
IMPORTANT! The procedures in this document refer to the standard PME install path:
...\Power Monitoring Expert\... The install folder names for the Data Center and Healthcare editions are different:
...\Power Monitoring Expert DC Ed\......\Power Monitoring Expert for Healthcare\...
Side-by-side upgrade upgrademigrationmigration
A side-by-side upgrade upgrademigrationmigration is used when an older systemversion of the software is upgraded upgradedmigratedmigrated to a newer systemversion, or the software needs to be moved to a new computer. This type of upgrade upgrademigrationmigration is referred to as side-by-side because both systems—the old and the new—exist at the same time but on different computers.
Common reasons for moving the software to a new computer during an upgrade a migration an upgrade a migration include:
- Either the operating system (OS) version or the database (DB) server version or both on the old IONESPMPME system is no longer supported in the new system.
- The computer hardware of the old IONESPMPME system is outdated and needs to be replaced or upgraded.
- The old system cannot be decommissioned until the new system is fully deployed.
- You want to start with a fresh computer environment for the installation of the new version of the software but retain the configuration of the old system.
Side-by-side upgrade package
This guide assumes that you are using the Side-by-Side (SBS) Upgrade Package to assist in the upgrade upgrademigrationmigration process. The SBS Upgrade Package contains upgrade tools and a folder structure to help you organize and prepare both systems for the upgrade upgrademigrationmigration.
Note: Depending on the old and new systems, you might not need to use all the folders in the SBS Upgrade Package.
Configuration Manager 2.0.0
This guide assumes that you are using the Configuration Manager to assist in the upgrade migration process. Use the Configuration Manager to analyze the source and target systems and transfer a configured ION Enterprise 6.0.1 Power Monitoring Expert 8.1 system to a new PME 8.2 system.
